One of the top benefits of taking a bus is that everyone can fully enjoy the scenery and drive while our professionally trained and licensed drivers do the heavy work. This gives you more time to admire the passing scenery and perhaps take a photo or two.
This notion inspired us to look at some of the most scenic drives in South Africa. Let Mega Bus show you where to go.
Chapman’s Peak Drive
This route is regarded as one of the most picturesque in the world. This 9km route runs on the M6 coastal road linking Hout Bay to Noordhoek on the Atlantic Ocean. Make your way down winding bends and pass a rocky coastline.
Eight Mountain Passes
Welcome to the ‘wild side of the Drakensberg’, also known as the 8 mountain passes of the Eastern Cape. This route is considered a rather adventure route, especially if you’re making your way between Lady Grey and Elliot. The other passes include: Joubert’s Pass, Lundean’s Nek, VOlunteershoek Road, Bistone Pass, Carlisleshoek, Naude’s Nek (also the highest pass in the country), Bastervoetpad, Barkly Pass and the Otto Du Plessis Pass.
No one could ever forget to add the Garden Route on a list of this nature. This coastal stretch along the N2 between Mossel Bay and Storms River remains a firm favourite among South Africans and offers a vast variety of sights along the way. Pass lush vegetation and forests, nature reserves, lagoons, lake, hills, the mountains of the Outeniqua and the list goes on and on. If you’re looking for a truly unique experience, the 7 Passes Road is a treat to the eye.
We’re in KwaZulu-Natal now and making our way over 80km of sightseeing on a route that winds through the green countryside between Pietermaritzburg and the Drakensberg. Apart from being a most scenic route, this destination also offers many family-friendly activities, nature reserves, villages, forests and unique restaurants. Who know what a weekend it could turn out to be if you have a map.
